Moolanda Boulevard Pedestrian and Cycleway Bridge Business Case
For years, a three-span timber bridge known as the Moolanda Boulevard bridge provided an uninterrupted route for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the Robertson Road Cycleway. However, following a structural assessment in April 2022, the bridge was deemed no longer structurally sound and was removed. Wanting to restore this important connection, the City of Joondalup needed to secure funding—we were there to help.
The City of Joondalup set out to consider possible solutions and develop a business case for funding. Options under consideration included an at-grade crossing or investment in separated bridges. We were engaged to undertake an economic impact assessment and associated multi-criteria analysis to compare the options based on six criteria: financial, economic, and social benefits, risk assessment, community utilisation, and strategic alignment. This analysis was included as part of the business case recommending that a three-span fabricated steel l-girders bridge be developed to support positive social welfare outcomes for the community in Joondalup.?
When complete, the restored connection will increase active transport use, improve safety outcomes, and encourage greater levels physical activity across the community.
