Springfield Parkway and Greenbank Arterial
Significant growth within the Greater Springfield region has necessitated a major overhaul of Ipswich City Council¡¯s arterial road network. When the current two-lane roads were built, Springfield had a population of 10,000 people. Now home to 45,000 people¡ªand projected to rise to 137,000 in the coming years¡ªcongestion is becoming a significant issue. To address this, the Ipswich City Council is undertaking its largest infrastructure project to date. The Springfield Parkway and Greenbank Arterial project is a substantial road upgrade of over 4 kilometres of major collector and sub-arterial roads.
As part of the team delivering this major project, we provided concept and detailed engineering design, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, landscape design, street lighting and traffic signal design, structural bridge design, utilities design and coordination, and construction support. In order to overcome a network congested by existing public utilities, we devised a public utility relocation phasing plan that allowed sequential relocation of these services throughout the construction phase. We also incorporated shared off- and on-road cycle facilities to promote active transport along the road network and developed a program of re-vegetation and street scaping, which is now underway.
Once complete, residents and roadway users will benefit from easier travel through the Greater Springfield area.
