Wambo Wind Farm - Stages 1 and 2

Cubico Sustainable Investments and Stanwell will build a 504-megawatt (MW) Wambo Wind Farm near Jandowae in South East Queensland. The project involves staged delivery and construction of wind turbine generators (WTGs), with 42 WTGs being installed during Stage 1 and 41 WTGs being installed during Stage 2. They reached out to our team to prepare a traffic assessment to measure impacts and mitigate issues associated with the development of the wind farm.

Traffic engineering plays a critical role in supporting the nationwide energy transition, particularly onshore wind farms. A substantial portion of the wind farm planning phase includes the consideration of how large pieces of equipment will be transported to the project site. Further along in the planning process, we assessed the impacts of the external traffic generated during the construction phase of the project and proposed subsequent mitigation measures. Our team considered the development’s impacts on the external road network, roadside flora and fauna, and residents within the vicinity of the project site.

Due to the timely submission of our traffic engineering assessments, our clients could proceed with the approval process, and subsequently Stage 1 is now under construction. Stage 2 construction is set to be completed by early 2026.

Once operational, the Wambo Wind Farm will contribute over 500 MW to Queensland’s clean energy system, which is equivalent to powering 312,000 homes annually.
