The annual Â鶹´«Ã½ tradition of the 250km Busselton Bike Ride continues for its 14th year in Western Australia
Stantec maintained its 14-year annual tradition with the 250km Busselton Bike Ride in November with 31 participants including staff, clients, family members and friends departed Perth on Friday morning, reaching their final destination in just over eight hours, averaging 31kmph, enjoying five pit stops along the way.
An event held strongly in our hearts and a driving force of Â鶹´«Ã½ culture, the day aims to unite staff and clients together to raise awareness to a meaningful cause. This year's participants were riding for the Movember Foundation,to raise fund for men¡¯s cancers and action on mental health and suicide prevention. The team collectively raised over $3,000 for the charity.
The highest fundraiser of the day was our Mechanical BIM Designer, Matt Arthur, who raised a massive $1350. A first time participant in the race, Matthew¡¯s inspiration comes from his own experience of losing his father to cancer; a personal driving force that sees him strive to help those in less fortunate positions.
"Having lost my dad who battled cancer when I was a younger boy, it¡¯s an emotional and real-life experience of why I believe in helping others in any shape or form wherever I can ¨C it¡¯s why I¡¯m so pleased to be a part of this great cause," Matt says.
Stantec's Electrical/Vertical Transportation Project Engineer and lead organiser of the event, Michael Matrakis, enjoys seeing the event unifying clients and the Â鶹´«Ã½ culture by supporting a charitable cause.
¡°It¡¯s amazing to have 31 people complete a challenging and rewarding event, which reflects the true Â鶹´«Ã½ values to always support the community,¡± Michael says.
Whilst the ride is not a race, there is a traditional sprint finish along the Busselton foreshore often referred to the team as the world-famous Â鶹´«Ã½ Champs-?lys¨¦es. The 2020 final sprint was taken by Sam Davis, who took off with 150m remaining in the race.
Our Â鶹´«Ã½ team is proud to be raising an awareness of men¡¯s health and highlighting the importance of conducting routine check-ups.
