Honoring Black History Month

February 17, 2022

We recognize our BLK ERG, an employee resource group focused on the connection and development of Black colleagues and allies across Â鶹´«Ã½

Because we create opportunities and understand the tremendous value of ensuring all our team members are empowered, supported, and heard, Â鶹´«Ã½ offers an array of Employee Resource Groups (ERG). As we celebrate Black History Month, we recognize our BLK ERG, which focuses on the connection and development of Black colleagues and allies across our company.

BLK ERG is founded on four key pillars that guide its efforts:

  1. Projects and Collaboration: Directly supports our ability to deliver great work
  2. Education: Raises our collective awareness of historical issues, spotlighting Black excellence with our company
  3. Mentorship and Sponsorship: Connects participants to one another, as well as to those starting out in the professional world, including students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs)
  4. Social: Goes beyond professional networking to offer a range of fun, engaging activities that help connect on a personal level

The group is led by Ryan White, PE, a senior transportation engineer based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Brittany Stahl, PEng, a Stormwater team lead in Calgary, Alberta. As co-chairs, they help connect participants across offices, borders, disciplines, and business lines. They bring together a team of professionals excited to share their knowledge, experience, culture, and ideas.

One of those professionals is Ralph Abernathy IV, a financial analyst in Atlanta, Georgia. Ralph brings deeply personal ties to Black History Month as his grandfather was a beloved friend and ally of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Take a look as Ralph shares his family¡¯s experience in the civil rights movement and what it means to him.

My Connection to Black History: One Â鶹´«Ã½ Colleague¡¯s Story

At Â鶹´«Ã½, the ERGs are the dreamers and the doers; the collaborators and the connectors; and both leaders and learners. ERGs create the space where we share our stories and become a resource to all employees with the main objective of making a greater impact in our communities and supporting each other in our professional growth within Â鶹´«Ã½. ERGs are open to all.
