World Kindness Day 2020

December 04, 2020

This year could use a little more kindness. In 2020, Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s Developing Professional¡¯s Group led the way by supporting online acts of kindness

Bringing to life Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s culture of appreciation, our Developing Professionals Group (DPG) came together as a global network around an appreciation campaign in celebration of World Kindness Day. First introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, it¡¯s an annual celebration observed on November 13. The mission? To inspire individuals towards greater kindness and to connect nations to create a kinder world.

In the past, the DPG has supported World Kindness Day by encouraging its members and other Â鶹´«Ã½ colleagues to share hand-written cards and post messages of appreciation on office boards. Now, in this progressively digital world, they had to find new ways to participate and connect.

This year, the campaign centered on virtual high-fives, and offered suggestions on what that could look like:

  1. Send an email: With the caveat to make sure it was to individuals (not group chains) and maintained a personal touch.
  2. Make a (video) call: Just hearing appreciation in your voice could brighten someone¡¯s day.
  3. Give kudos on LinkedIn: Acknowledging someone in front of their professional network.

Many employees across the company took these pointers and added their own unique flare.

At Â鶹´«Ã½, one of our four key values is that we are better together. Engaging in World Kindness Day every year reminds people that even in our fast-paced industry, we need to take time to build and maintain our relationships. Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s Developing Professionals Group is proud to lead this initiative.

By the end of the day, there was so much positivity flowing through people¡¯s inboxes that the impact of a simple email and two minutes of time could no longer be ignored. Have a look below for some more highlights from the day:

  • One of our UK team members shared the initiative with their joint venture partner who took the initiative back to their company to spread the appreciation campaign with their own colleagues.
  • Gord Johnston (president & CEO) said ¡°What a great initiative this World Kindness Day campaign is. The leadership the DPG is showing is exemplary and makes me confident that we have a strong next generation of leaders coming up to drive Â鶹´«Ã½ towards continued success. I appreciate all your hard work, fresh ideas, and positive energy and encourage you to continue making your voices heard. I¡¯m listening, as well as many other leaders across the company.¡±
  • Rachel Cranford (project manager, DPG Canada region lead) said ¡°From networking events, trivia games, and book clubs to self-development, leadership panels, and accreditation coaching¡ªthe DPG leadership team amazes me every time we talk.¡±

Keeping connected is one of our industry¡¯s pressing challenges, and making a point to spread a little kindness builds relationships and communities. The DPG plans to continue this annual World Kindness Day participation and continues to be active champions of our Â鶹´«Ã½ culture.
