Net zero emissions by 2050 is a worldwide goal. Yet, sustainable designs can¡¯t be just an added service contribution, says Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s Queensland Sustainability Section Manager Andrew Williams. According to the United Nations, seventy per cent of the world¡¯s economies are accountable for two-thirds of global emissions and have given firm vows to accomplish carbon neutrality. The Climate Action 100+ group, which brings together 615 investment firms operating US$55 trillion in assets, is holding the world¡¯s 100 biggest carbon emitters to account.

He adds some clients still see sustainability as just a 'tick-the-box exercise', leading to missed opportunities in sustainable strategies when a specialist sustainability consultant is not involved.

¡°Another critical misstep in the meaningful implementation of sustainability strategies is when a project does not include a specialist sustainability consultant,¡± he says, ¡°The project team will turn up with a shopping list of sustainability initiatives, but little understanding of how each adds value or interacts with each-other.¡±
