Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has announced an integrated climate action leadership team that includes Climate Solutions leaders, a climate science director, and a sustainable development goals (SDG) impact leader. This most recent alignment of Â鶹´«Ã½ and experience is a continuation of the firm¡¯s long-held commitment to supporting client sustainability goals.

Drawing on decades of industry leadership, Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s climate practice combines its global services and Â鶹´«Ã½ to support clients through every step of their planning, regulatory, mitigation, and adaptation journey. Seven new leaders spread across the globe will help drive creative and innovative approaches to sustainability and climate challenges.

¡°With their unique experiences across industry sectors and commitment to science-driven outcomes, our climate action leadership team will help our clients address a defining issue of our time,¡± said Gord Johnston, president and chief executive officer. ¡°As many of our clients face regulatory and investor demands, we know that our leadership and innovative solutions will help the resilient and sustainable communities of tomorrow.¡±

Working across business lines, the team will drive Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s Climate Solutions to design and deliver integrated strategies for our clients, communities, and the environment.

The Climate Solutions leaders are respected engineers, scientists, designers, and business leaders with decades of experience driving forward sustainable and resilient environmental solutions and design:

Nicole Flanagan, Canada: Flanagan has over 20 years of experience in delivering services in the sustainability and climate change space. She launched Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s greenhouse gas quantification and verification services and helps lead the company¡¯s services relating to environmental, social, and governance consulting and climate risk assessments and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure framework.

Natalie Muir, Australia and New Zealand: Muir is an environmental engineer with over 25 years of experience in the water and infrastructure industry, serving in senior leadership positions on multiple region-defining water infrastructure projects across Australia.?She is vice chair for the FIDIC (International Federation for Consulting Engineers) Sustainable Development Committee and has a passion for bringing a sustainability focus to all her project work.

Christophe Leroy, Continental Europe: With 21 years of experience, Leroy has worked as project director on numerous European Union (EU) programs and technical assistance services contracts, providing him with key insights into the energy, climate change, governance, and development sectors. He has supported the EU on several Conference of the Parties events and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for its climate change annual report. Based in Belgium, Leroy leads Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s international development work.

Lucy Wood, UK and Ireland: Wood, a former partner of Barton Willmore, brings over 17 years of experience advising on environmental planning, climate change, and health and well-being for a wide range of industry sectors.?She has advised a wide range of public and private sector clients on potential climate change updates to the UK¡¯s National Planning Policy Framework and wider policy amendments. Combining a commercial focus with a background in environmental consultancy and planning, she applies her technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and energy to shape ambitious and deliverable projects that drive towards net zero and social equity.

To challenge Â鶹´«Ã½ to think holistically about improving the environmental and social/cultural sustainability of company projects, a new position has been created called SDG impact leader, filled by Rachel Bannon-Godfrey. She will be responsible for fully integrating the United Nations SDGs into Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s operations, project work, and culture. She will bring her insights to the climate action leadership team for the benefit of clients. With 20 years of experience, Bannon-Godfrey¡¯s career includes designing high-performance and net zero energy buildings, as well as climate-resilient and sustainable master planning across the globe.
