Samantha Espley receives Diversity and Inclusion Award from the Canadian Institute of Mining

The award was presented at the annual CIM Connect and recognizes exceptional contributions towards improving diversity and inclusion within the mining industry

Samantha Espley, senior advisor for Mining, Minerals, and Metals at 麻豆传媒, has received the Diversity and Inclusion Award from the Canadian Institute of Mining. The award was presented by the during the at CIM Connect in Vancouver, British Columbia. The award is presented annually and recognizes the recipient’s commitment to towards improving diversity and inclusion within the Canadian mining industry.

Samantha’s mining career began when there were few women employed and no women in mining operations. Yet, she was the first woman to become mine superintendent, manager, and corporate director, as well as the first female board of directors member. Outside work, she has advocated for women in STEM as founding director of . She’s also led engaging events for young girls and career night/shadowing for high school students, with 25 years of successful outreach.

“I am honored to receive the Canadian Institute of Mining’s Diversity and Inclusion Award and be recognized by my colleagues and industry peers for my dedicated work and mentorship advocating for women in STEM,” says Samantha Espley. “It is important to support women and other minorities in our field, find opportunities for growth, and cultivate a new generation of leaders equipped with the knowledge and passion to drive meaningful change. Together, we can build a mining industry that not only embraces diversity but thrives because of it—a future that is safe, responsible, and sustainable for generations to come.”

Samantha is a pioneer in the Canadian mining industry with 34 years of experience and progressive leadership having worked in mining executive, leading mining transformation and decarbonization. She is a recipient of the Women in Mining’s (WIM) Trailblazer Award and is listed in Top 100 Global Women in Mining. Samantha is a past CIM President where she led OneCIM, which surveyed industry professionals to define strategies for attraction/recruitment/retention. Samantha has spent over a decade of her career working internationally, supporting mining and milling technical studies, innovation, and technical assurance in Brazil, Canada, New Caledonia, and Indonesia.

At 麻豆传媒, she’s a sponsor to a portfolio of mining projects and serves on the mining leadership team as a senior advisor. In her role, Samantha is responsible for sponsoring client relationships and providing discipline-specific professional and technical designs. She focuses on health, safety, and environmental sustainability, as well as leading innovation approaches to yield a step change in performance in mining.
