Over the course of his career, Dougie has completed many global dam safety inspections and upgrades as well as supervised reservoir safety emergencies. His proficiencies include long-term monitoring and performance analysis, flood and overflow capacity and wave overtopping studies, and improvement works. Added to this, he has experience with dam decommissioning, leakage investigations, and improvements for emergency drawdown of reservoirs.
Dougie has worked with Dunedin City and Hastings District Councils in New Zealand on dam safety studies for around 20 reservoirs. He was also the design lead on labyrinth spillway designs and additional optioneering for two extreme consequence dams in the Canada’s Rocky Mountains. Currently, he’s working on a major concrete dam upgrade in South Australia and the reference design for a new pumped storage scheme in Queensland.
In the other half of his daily life, Dougie is a keen cook and loves hanging out and adventuring with his wife and two boys. Passionate about music, he loves playing the guitar and piano or digging around in second-hand record shops for a nice slice of 70s prog rock.
