Transitioning to 100% zero-emission is an unprecedented challenge for municipalities and transit agencies. Analy is one of a few experts in zero emission technologies who can help. For over a decade, she has brought hydrogen fuel cell and battery-powered vehicles to city streets.
Driven to improve air quality, Analy became passionate about environmental sustainability as uncontrolled growth in the cities of her native country, Guatemala, turned blue skies to gray. After moving to California, Analy found like-minded colleagues in UC Irvine¡¯s Advanced Power & Energy PhD Program where her zero emission research included the first hydrogen fuel cell pilot programs in any US University.
Her research and publications have influenced policymakers and zero emission regulations. A model she developed for her thesis optimizing zero emission bus phasing is now being used by our transit team. This modeling tool, ZEVDecide, helps transit agencies determine their unique mix of battery and hydrogen fuel cell buses based on the terrain, routes, and infrastructure.
