Stephanie Coffman

Senior Principal, River System & Basin Management Program Lead

Photo of Stephanie

When she was eight years old, Stephanie bought a science book at the Scholastic Book Fair—it had a cool rock and mineral kit with it. She opened it, and instantly decided she was going to be a geologist. Since then, Stephanie became a licensed professional geologist and dedicated her career to helping communities across the country understand the severity of their stream erosion issues and how to address those issues in their projects.?

Specializing in fluvial geomorphology and hydrology, Stephanie works closely with her clients to protect vital infrastructure by integrating river science into the big-picture engineering process. She’s walked over 400 miles of channel in her work, taking a collaborative approach to identifying causes of erosion to assets like pipelines, roadways, parks, buildings, intakes, and outfalls. Stephanie develops restoration solutions that are designed to work with the stream, rather than against it, while also considering engineering and construction complexity, and project hazards.

Stephanie’s career truly is her favorite hobby—when she’s not at work, you’ll find her canoeing rivers and wading in creeks.? ? ?
