Kathleen has been a part of our Hydropower Planning Group since 2007 and is experienced in generation modeling, risk evaluation, decision support, and economic and financial modeling. She works on hydropower and renewable energy projects, including screening and feasibility studies for potential new projects (ranging from small kinetic schemes to large pumped storage), as well as refurbishment and upgrade studies for existing facilities. Plus, she’s handled asset management programs for hydro fleet owners and operators.
One of those asset management programs concerned 112 federally-owned hydropower plants. As the plants aged, there was an increasing need for a transparent, repeatable, defensible tool that could assist with long-term investment planning. Kathleen was extensively involved with the creation of the asset investment planning tool, which prioritizes investment projects across the fleet considering different funding scenarios and probabilistic risk over a 20-year planning horizon. This tool has been used by the US Army Corps of Engineers since 2010. She’s also a co-author of the Argonne National Laboratory Report, Modeling and Analysis of Value of Advanced Pumped Storage Hydropower in the United States.
When not at her desk, Kathleen likes to spend her time walking—in the forest, or with dogs at her local animal shelter.?
