As an archaeologist, Maria loves the diversity that comes with her work. She enjoys conducting impact assessments, archaeological excavations, and desktop research that bring an opportunity to learn more about her Indigenous heritage. Respect and collaboration are the guiding principles of Maria’s work—in collaboration with her colleagues, she respects the natural environment and the people who left the archaeological remains and their descendant communities.
Maria has both a bachelor and master’s degree in archaeology. And with a passion for continuous learning that extends beyond her work, she has held positions as the first vice president, Indigenous and Métis Liaison, and member at large for the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society. She’s also served as the secretary for the Saskatoon Archaeological Society.
When she’s not working a dig site, Maria focuses her digging efforts on her flower and vegetable gardens. She loves the outdoors and enjoys spending time with her family and pets on her acreage south of Saskatoon.?
