A senior principal in our Community Development group, Derek has played a vital role in the evolution and enhancement of Santa Barbara's waterfront and downtown. An avid biker, Derek takes pleasure in exploring projects he has managed, such as the transformative Shoreline Bike Path that converted a four-lane roadway into a two-lane road with a scenic coastal bike path.
Derek's dedication to traffic safety and community improvement is evident in his award-winning work. These include the Santa Barbara Beautiful Award for the Shoreline Drive Bike Path and the American Public Works Association (APWA) Project of the Year award for the Avenue L and Challenger Way Roundabout in Lancaster.
Derek also has a profound passion for his industry and a commitment to nurturing young talent. As past president of the Central Coast’s Institute of Transportation Engineers, his influence extends far beyond Santa Barbara as he shapes the future of engineering and continues to inspire aspiring professionals.
