Biala Wind Farm - Turbine Transportation Assessment and Management

Located southwest of Crookwell in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, the 31-turbine Biala Wind Farm is a state significant development.

With wind turbine generators rising to a maximum height of 185 metres (607 feet), transportation of plant and materials requires the use of vehicles that fall under the oversize and overmass (OSOM) classification, as per Transport for NSW regulations. Newtricity/Goldwind Australia engaged us to conduct a transportation assessment and prepare a transportation management plan to support their submission.

As part of our role, we provided advice in relation to the construction and delivery by OSOM vehicles. This involved a review of the existing road network to identify appropriate transportation routes, and a swept path assessment of the vehicles to simulate travel paths. Our traffic management plan included mitigation measures and consultation with relevant councils and Transport for NSW.

The wind farm has the capacity to produce approximately 110 megawatts of power, creating enough electricity for around 46,000 typical homes on an average day of wind.
