Bullsbrook District High School
To support population growth in Bullsbrook, Western Australia, the Bullsbrook District High School engaged in the redevelopment, upgrade, and extension of their existing site. The design would call for both new and refurbished buildings to accommodate an elevated learning experience.
Our team was involved to undertake the acoustics, electrical, and mechanical engineering along with sustainability services. One of the main challenges for our acoustics team was the proximity of the school to a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base where turbo engine aircraft are in use. As the training air space extends over the school, the building¡¯s envelope would have to minimize internal noise levels within teaching areas to allow for speech intelligibility. This was achieved by controlling the noise of the mechanical services and using metal cladding and lightweight materials for the external walls and roof.
The expansion resulted in new buildings for design and technology, science, student services and administration, and music and drama, as well as a new middle school learning space and the refurbishment of existing learning spaces for an improved learning experience.
