Crane Support Structural Certification and Engineering

Our client, who runs a blue-chip mining operation in the Pilbara region, was preparing for planned maintenance tasks that would require the use of their two large-capacity (20 tons) overhead traveling cranes. The cranes were registered with the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) and, as part of their compliance requirements, these assets were due for their 25-year design recertification.

As these tasks couldn’t be carried out until the cranes were recertified, we were retained to complete the structural certification of the crushing and screening buildings as well as the crane recertification. This included engineering design checks, site inspections, surveys, non-destructive testing inspection, and re-registration in consultation with the DMP and its procedures. We worked closely with the client to propose strengthening modifications that could be installed within the necessary timeframe.

With this recertification and the associated inspections, our client was able to validate their facility’s design life for an additional 25 years.
