Tank Stream Hotel
The Tank Stream Hotel transformed a commercial building into a luxury hotel in the heart of Sydney¡¯s central business district (CBD), featuring 282 guest rooms, a restaurant and bar, and ground floor retail outlets. In addition to the change-of-use, this project also involved the addition of four new levels to the existing structure.
Our team was engaged to design the mechanical, hydraulic, fire protection, electrical, and acoustic services. One of our main acoustic design challenges was the modelling of patron noise within the bar and its effect on occupants of the guests rooms directly above the bar. The interface between the restaurant, bar, and hotel guest rooms isolated the guest rooms from public space noise including the acoustic treatment of above-ceiling building services. This required an understanding of the relationship between the function of different spaces and the design materials used to achieve the desired outcome for each space.
We also liaised with the architect, sustainability engineer, and structural engineer to achieve the required acoustic performance for the new curtain wall fa?ade adjacent to noisy streets. While our client doubled the value of his building post-completion, the community now had an affordable new hotel within the Sydney CBD.
