Technical Assistance - Ethiopia Climate Change Sector Reform Performance

While Ethiopia may be one of the poorest countries in Africa, it¡¯s also considered the fastest growing economy in the region. The Ethiopian government is working to transition the economy to become more climate resilient and green, with the European Union (EU) contributing through a budget support program.

Our team was appointed to assist governmental institutions in improving their technical and managerial capabilities to achieve program objectives. We provide technical support for enhanced climate change mitigation action in the forestry, industrial, and cement sectors, as well as capacity building for greenhouse gas emission monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) in line with Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines. We¡¯re also working with stakeholders to enhance the integration of climate action in public financial management by setting up a system for tracking climate-related expenditures in the budget and preparing climate-related sector programs embedded in the planning and budgeting process. Finally, we¡¯re facilitating policy dialogue between the EU and the Ethiopian government on various topics linked to the climate change agenda.

Though Ethiopia is susceptible to the effects of climate change, this is a huge opportunity to transform and establish a more climate resilient and green economy for a more sustainable tomorrow.
