ATCO Pipelines Girth Weld Fitness for Service Assessment
To assess vintage pipelines for adherence to modern fitness-for-service (FFS) standards, ATCO required the services of a trusted engineering partner. We have a strong safety culture at the heart of our operations, and we have technical specialists with the right knowledge and experience to help ATCO keep their energy assets compliant and in safe working order.
Our team evaluated above- and below-ground, in-service girth welds based on Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z662 15 criteria for the safe design, construction, and maintenance of oil and gas pipeline systems. This involved engineering assessments of welds for operating risk, and we used a combination of established industry methods, such as the American Petroleum Institute (API) 579 failure assessment diagramming and finite element modeling.
Drawing on decades of industry experience providing digital solutions for our clients, we created an innovative, desktop-based tool that helped us conduct these complex FFS assessments. Our confident project delivery and the tool¡¯s auto-generated PDF reports resulted in an approximate 90% cost and time savings for ATCO.
