City of Calgary Stormwater Management Dam Safety Program

After dam safety regulation updates, the City of Calgary set out to develop a city-wide regulated dam portfolio¡ªwhich is not an easy task with more than 350 stormwater facilities! Our job? We were selected as their strategic geotechnical and hydrotechnical advisor to analyze their stormwater infrastructure, navigate the new provincial regulations, and develop and implement a safety management system.

Our Geotechnical and Water Resource teams are leading this three-year contract, now in the early stages of reviewing and classifying the facilities to help the City manage this huge portfolio. Following the assessment and classification stage, Â鶹´«Ã½ will be stewarding the City in managing their dam portfolio, developing operations and safety manuals, training operations staff, and completing dam safety reviews.

When these assessments and reviews are complete, the City of Calgary will have a thorough classification of their assets as related to the new provincial regulations as well as a data management system that will serve as a single repository for all information related to their facilities. This will expedite maintenance activities and streamline annual performance reporting.?
