Du Campanile Schoolyard Redevelopment
With a schoolyard made primarily of asphalt and gravel, Du Campanile School wanted to improve its outdoor amenities to give students a greener, more versatile, and more inclusive schoolyard. At the same time, some of the facilities, including the existing soccer field, needed refreshing and upgrading.
Our Landscape Architecture and Civil Engineering teams made it possible for the school to achieve its goal of improved school grounds worthy of the latest trends in school-related design. The new heat island development includes grassy spaces, new plantings, and an outdoor classroom. The outdoor classroom includes furniture, places for free play with ground markings, and a new multisport playing field with a synthetic surface.
By reducing the impact of rain on its surface, the new synthetic multisport field maximizes playing time. The synthetic surface is very versatile¡ªaccommodating a variety of ball types¡ªand can be used for soccer or a multitude of other sports. It can also be used as a gathering area for special activities.
A green strip alongside the building provides a number of benefits for students and staff, both outdoors and in the classrooms. The school benefits from the shade provided by the new trees, which will also help keep the building cool during warm weather and reduce the heat island effect, improve air quality in the neighborhood and fostering drainage of rainwater into the ground.
Thanks to these improvements, students can attend an outdoor class or find a space to suit their needs during recess.
