Cape Croker Wharf Reconstruction
The Cape Croker Wharf is located within a First Nation Reservation in the County of Bruce. Originally built by the federal government in 1904 and used by the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation to dock fishing, recreational, and emergency boats, Cape Croker Wharf became unsafe due to aging and the impact of significant storms. This project¡¯s goal? To create a more prosperous, sustainable, and resilient community by reconstructing this historical wharf.
We worked closely with the First Nation community and Indigenous Services Canada to ensure the facility design would serve the community¡¯s present and future needs¡ªall while advancing sustainable development goals. It would also generate employment opportunities for the community during construction.
The existing wharf was partially deconstructed so modern structural supports could be installed for stabilization. Accessories such as ladders, a fender system, a boat launch ramp, lighting, and fire suppression systems were also constructed.
This beautiful area is now home to an expanded and revitalized L-shaped dock that will serve the community for years to come.?
