Fraser Surrey Port Lands Area-Wide Multimodal Transportation Study
As one area of the largest and busiest ports in Canada, planning for the Fraser Surrey Port Lands (FSPL) became increasingly complex due to current infrastructure conditions and forecasted growth in freight volumes. Recent transportation improvements in Delta and Surrey, such as the new South Fraser Perimeter Road (Highway 17), have helped relieve network congestion and improve connectivity and travel time reliability. Even so, there is still a need for a long-term comprehensive transportation plan for the FSPL area, an important hub for moving people and goods throughout the Lower Mainland region.
Focusing on rail and road network improvements, the study took us through various stages from traffic assessments to stakeholder engagement consultations to evaluations for multi-term infrastructure.
The result? A recommended implementation strategy for near-term and long-term improvements, offering innovative solutions to provide full road and rail network connectivity and address critical port access requirements, to be used in the development of a broader Fraser River Trade Area.?
