Kivalliq Inter-community Road Study
Getting around in Canada¡¯s Arctic is a challenge¡ªthere are currently no all-weather roads that connect communities in Nunavut. Apart from a limited sealift resupply service for durable goods, the only way to transport goods and travel long distances is by air. Reliance on this single and costly mode of transportation severely constrains opportunities in the north.
In collaboration with the Government of Nunavut (GN), and through our Indigenous Partnership, Nunami Â鶹´«Ã½ Limited, we provided early business case analysis and funding application support that secured federal financing for an inter-community road project. Nunami Â鶹´«Ã½ was then selected through a public procurement process to complete three phases of the study to assess the project viability, undertake community consultations, and complete physical investigations and roadway alignment designs.
We continue to lead the project with the GN and have begun public consultations for the conceptual corridor, which will help refine the project and design options that benefit communities and industry across the Kivalliq region and beyond. Nunami Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s extensive relationships with northern communities have been key to facilitating successful consultations.
