Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge Rehabilitation
At 54 years old, Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge was in need of some repairs and improvements. Our team was retained by the City of Saskatoon to perform specialized investigations to refine the scope of work required, design the repairs, and lead the project through the multi-year construction phase.
This project saw substantial improvements made to three structures in total, including the main bridge and two flyovers. Typical deck testing programs completed by the City flagged initial deteriorations and our team performed specialized inspections, including via barge and manlift, impact-echo testing, strain and load testing, as well as underwater sonar mapping. This ultimately enabled our team to obtain a full understanding of every aspect of the bridges, including numerous elements typically unreachable during routine inspections. As this is one of the busiest bridges within the City, traffic modelling and quantitative analyses were undertaken while developing the repair strategy to minimize impacts to residents and users.
Following the completion of the design, construction was executed over two seasons¡ªit achieved completion two months ahead of schedule.
