University of British Columbia - Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences / CDRD

For the first time under one roof at UBC, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences building provides teaching, learning, research, and community outreach activities to its occupants including industry partner, Centre for Drug Research and Development.

Our laboratory design provides maximum flexibility for a wide variety of conventional and modified barrier uses. This program focuses on discovery and patient care and is replicated in the laboratory components.

The research laboratories are organized on three levels in a series of independent compartments. Internal atria are placed to provide substantial natural light and internal visibility to adjacent labs and faculty offices. This design also enables 'science on display' as staff and visitors can observe activities without entering a secure biosafety zone. Flexible benches are located on the perimeter with supporting 'small rooms' located in a central core area. Each research laboratory is designed to meet current Containment Level 2 Biosafety requirements.

Over 4,000 pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists have graduated from this program at UBC contributing to the community.
