Upper Qu¡¯Appelle Channel Feasibility Study
Our strong credentials in stream restoration and natural channel design led the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority to us when a feasibility study related to water flow in the Qu¡¯Appelle Valley river channel was needed.
This 92 km long river channel carries water from Lake Diefenbaker to Buffalo Pound Lake. It provides water to communities as far distant as Regina and Moose Jaw as well as for industry (mainly mines) and recreation. However, it has become badly degraded over time, reducing the water flow.
We presented three options: build a gravity pipeline, dredge a canal or improve the existing channel. The first two options are straight-forward but expensive; the last is more challenging, less expensive. Erosion, flat slopes and a sinuous channel present obstacles. But this option also offers significant environmental benefits¡ªprotecting habitat for fish, Northern Leopard Frogs and other wildlife.
