Environmental and Social Safeguards ¨C Policy Study and Client Training

As climate change risks become more prominent, a standardized approach to identifying and addressing environmental and social safeguards (ESS) is an integral part of any project planning process. Working with a long-standing global humanitarian organization, we helped our client conduct a study on the ESS standards of selected international finance institutions to identify the differences and gaps.

Using this information, our team facilitated training for the organization¡¯s staff and volunteers¡ªtraining them how to identify strategies that support their continued consideration of climate change impacts. Topics discussed in the training included determining why ESS is an important part of the process, integrating ESS into project design and execution, and understanding how ESS helps address the potential environmental and social impacts on the project and helps harness opportunities towards development benefits.

The result of our assessment and training process? Our client can align their approach with the United Nations sustainability strategy. Staff and volunteers are empowered to be part of the process, implement standards to manage their project risk, address pressing stakeholder demands, and harness opportunities that support environmental and social resilience.?
