Est¨ª Hydroelectric Project
By the 1990s it was clear that Panama¡¯s need for clean power was growing to become essential. The exceptionally large urban community accounted for three quarters of the country¡¯s total population and abusing fossil fuels for energy was no longer a sustainable option. AES would begin the Est¨ª Hydroelectric project in 1999 and asked our team to implement an efficient and cost-effective strategy.
Our team supplied AES?with the engineering Â鶹´«Ã½ necessary for a 120 MW Est¨ª Hydroelectric Project. We needed to present AES¡¯s technical requirements in a way that could be fully understood and implemented by contractors to complete the project on time and within the contract cost.
Located 400KM west of Panama City, Est¨ª Hydroelectric uses excess outflows from the existing Chiriqu¨ª and Fortuna projects, as well as the natural flow from two other rivers. Four intervening flows coincide at Est¨ª to produce 120 MW of electricity in the Canjilones power station.
The project includes two dams. The first is on the Chiriqu¨ª River and is 35.5-meter-high and 213m long and the second dam is 60m high on the Barring¨®n River. Our team successfully implemented an alternative strategy to replace fossil fuels in a nation that was desperately in need of a healthy energy source.
