Supply of Recycled Water along Abu Dhabi Al Ain Road
Providing water for irrigated farming in water-scarce regions like Abu Dhabi comes with major challenges. The Abu Dhabi Government wanted to eliminate the increasing dependency on non-renewable water sources and find a sustainable solution for irrigation water. We were there to help.
The government introduced a plan to utilize the recycled water from Abu Dhabi¡¯s two largest wastewater treatment plants. They called on our team to help design a massive transmission and distribution system for the 250,000 cubic meters (8,828,667 cubic feet) of water needed daily. We modeled six different options and completed a value analysis of pump station configurations to optimize energy efficiency.?
The final scheme comprises 106 kilometers (66 miles) of pipeline, one new pump station with two pumping groups, reinforced concrete storage tank, and connections to three new steel reservoirs in addition to the existing eight reservoirs. Our team was able to fast-track the approvals and permits process to get things moving as quickly as possible.
This initiative will provide a reliable and long-term solution for irrigating many of the Emirate¡¯s forests and farms. When the scheme is complete, Abu Dhabi will have increased the reuse of recycled water, helping to close the water cycle, and providing a sustainable solution for years to come.
