Wellington Water - Pump Maintenance and Data Collection

Every day, Wellington Water is responsible for supplying water to and the treatment of wastewater for over 400,000 people. Critical to this effort is the maintenance of the utility¡¯s 259 pump stations. Preventative pump maintenance is crucial to improve efficiency and reduce unplanned expenditure or defects. To improve pump maintenance, Wellington Water engaged us to develop a pump station dashboard for their preventative asset maintenance program.

Data from the utility¡¯s existing systems proved unsuitable for the proposed dashboard¡ªafter trialling different options, we found that the Tableau Dashboard program could share water performance data, including analytical, modeling, capital planning, asset management, and operational performance across multiple teams on the same dashboard, instead of multiple spreadsheets that were not displayed in real time.

Using the solution built in the Tableau Dashboard and with our continued support, Wellington Water estimated up to a 20 percent reduction in electricity costs, subsequent reductions in carbon emissions, and the number of field tests needed to assess pump conditions.
