HY2GO

The UK Government set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050. With Scotland¡¯s natural abundance of wind and water resources, HY2GO saw an opportunity to create a leading hydrogen distribution centre. Having obtained planning in principle for the project, HY2GO turned to us for multidisciplinary engineering, energy and sustainability consultancy, and more to inform the final detailed design.

Our utilities specialists reviewed site conditions, environmental liability, and regulatory requirements. They established energy storage guidelines based on energy outputs, provided a site-specific sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) strategy, and conducted a qualitative and quantitative air quality risk assessment. These services determined delivery needs and mitigated flood and air quality risks.

One key component of the facility¡¯s self-sufficiency and carbon footprint goals was its ability to source on-site groundwater. Our geo-environmental specialists produced a borehole prognosis report, consulting with SEPA and the Coal Authority to assess the site¡¯s groundwater feasibility.

When completed, the HY2GO plant will be one of the first green hydrogen production facilities in the UK. With a planned 9MW electrolyser, wind turbines, a solar farm, and energy storage, the site will be fully self-sufficient, with energy provided by environmentally sustainable sources.

Implementing this hydrogen project will achieve the equivalent of removing 7,500 cars from Scottish roads every year and greatly contribute to the UK Government¡¯s 2050 targets.?
