70 West Madison Repositioning

In the heart of downtown Chicago¡¯s financial center, 70 West Madison¡ªa commercial office tower¡ªrequired a much-needed facelift to its nine-story atrium lobby and reception areas. Our client was looking to increase tenant occupancy through intentional upgrades that wouldn¡¯t break the bank.

Stantec worked collaboratively with the client to create a brighter and more welcoming lobby atrium and lounge. We refinished existing furniture to complement new pieces and added programmable vertical light blades to six floors above the atrium to lighten the formerly dark space. Modern artwork was placed to cover dated stone panels without removing them. Our team removed glass panels on the second floor, which helped draw the eye upwards to the building¡¯s lounge. In addition to lobby and reception areas, our design team is moving the 5th floor fitness center directly adjacent to the turnstiles on the second floor to increase utilization and encourage physical wellness.

As this building connects thousands of employees to a variety of mass transit options and to the vibrant downtown restaurant, bar, and theater scene, a refreshed lobby helps positively welcome and usher them along their journey.
