Adams Crossing

America¡¯s passionate food culture meets the pioneer spirit and responsible energy use at Adams Crossing. Our client came to us with a dream for a Net Zero community development that would stand out in a growing Denver market. The project¡¯s goals grew to include Net Zero water and small-scale agriculture on-site, enough to cover 50% of the community¡¯s caloric needs and produce value-added products, as the project took shape.

We took the challenges in the land (such as its floodplain) and the ambitious goals for sustainable living and turned them into unique assets. Our plan recognizes the age-old practice of farming in the floodplain and taps into Brighton¡¯s history of ¡°truck farming.¡± Energy harvesting technology (photovoltaics and geothermal) is distributed throughout the community. To accommodate the cost of these systems and manage water run-off, we reduced streetscape, created greenways and chose a rear-loaded building type which makes each front yard part of a park. The first 120-acre phase is comprised of farm kits, single family homes, apartments, and commercial space clustered around a 3.5-acre neighborhood park and farmers¡¯ market plaza.

An innovative combination of sustainable technology and integration of small-scale agriculture in a food-culture-inspired community setting makes this neighborhood a new benchmark for responsible and conscious living.?
