Amyris Biotechnologies Office / Lab Renovation and Pilot Plant

Every project we work on is a fascinating puzzle to solve. But when your client is accomplishing the seemingly magical, it adds another layer of interest. Amyris Biotechnologies in Emeryville, California, creates sustainable ingredients made with synthetic biology by converting basic plant sugars into rare bioidentical molecules used as essential ingredients in more environmentally friendly products.

With synthetic biology discoveries and applications increasing rapidly, Amyris needed to redevelop its existing spaces for greater efficiency and capabilities. Our role in this tenant improvement project included reimagining process areas, laboratories, and offices for a biofuels pilot-plant. We also provided designs for applied research support spaces for developing specialty and performance chemicals, flavors and fragrances, cosmetics ingredients, pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals for the marketplace. ?

We worked closely with Amyris to develop spaces that were functional and adaptable to future uses. The nature of their work required robust building systems and reliability. While synthetic biology is not yet turning straw into gold, its possibilities for enhancing sustainability are endless and ones we are proud to provide support for.

Services for this project were completed by the employees of GL Planning & Design prior to their employment at Â鶹´«Ã½.
