Barefoot Bay Outdoor Aquatic Center

Nestled among a residential neighborhood, wetlands, and a stream, designing the Barefoot Bay Aquatic Center required creative engineering and space planning to incorporate as many water features as possible into a water park¡ªwhile protecting sensitive habitat.?

Designed to serve 1,500 visitors, this center has something for everyone. Not up for a swim? Kick back in the 500 ft. long Lazy River. Feeling a little rambunctious?? Take a plunge into the main water pool. Thrill seeker? Try one of the three water slides with a 1,310 square feet plunge pool. Small kids? Enjoy the wading, play, and shallow-water areas for interactive play, recreation, and swim.?

To address the sensitive nature of the site, we created a wetland style detention basin with native prairie plantings and installed rain gardens for additional natural stormwater management.

We also maximized the benefits of a 22-foot grade differential across the site in several ways: placing a 30-foot tall slide tower on the lower side of the site (minimizing its visual impact), providing an elevated concession deck, and installing simulated natural stone finished retaining wall blocks and graded slopes. ?
