Brighton Boulevard Redevelopment

Balancing immediate and long-term goals isn¡¯t always easy. But in the case of the Brighton Boulevard Redevelopment, one street got the much-needed immediate facelift and with a design to meet the neighborhood¡¯s long-term goals for future redevelopment.

With accessibility in mind, the project team designed four different zones: the Main Street zone; the Education, Industry, and Development zone; the National Western Center zone; and the Northern Neighborhood zone. Each zone was designed with a short-term phase¡ªworking within the existing right-of-way to provide a pedestrian scaled streetscape that included stormwater planters to provide management of both street and sidewalk runoff, while providing comfortable aesthetic improvements¡ªas well as a long-term phase, anticipating future redevelopment and expansion of the right-of-way.

Our team participated in public meetings and presented the challenges and opportunities for the corridor, which allowed us to address the community¡¯s concerns for redevelopment. By working with neighborhood and community members, we accommodated a multi-modal street with dedicated bike paths, controlled turn lanes, and better pedestrian thoroughfares.
