Dell Children¡¯s Medical Center of Central Texas

When the highly successful Dell Children¡¯s Hospital began running out of space for new and growing children¡¯s specialty departments, we were asked to help due to our successful history with the Hospital. Our goal? To expand the facility to meet current demands and allow for continued growth into a world class facility that respects the sustainable nature and master plan for the development of the facility.

As an addition to the first Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Platinum Hospital in the world, the Hospital wanted to continue the dedication to sustainability and set a goal that the addition be LEED Platinum Certified as well. As one of the first projects to go through LEED for healthcare, it was imperative to review and revise our designs often to not only meet certification requirements, but to thoughtfully incorporate design goals into the landscape of a plan that placed patients, their families, and staff at the forefront.

When complete, the award-winning addition to the hospital provided a better working environment for staff and an improved care environment for patients¡ªfor whom medical outcomes improved¡ªwhile reducing the total carbon footprint of the facility. It¡¯s not just expanding buildings, it¡¯s strengthening communities by supporting children¡¯s health through sustainable design.
