Fitch¡¯s Bridge

Built in the early days of the 20th?century, the original Fitch¡¯s Bridge had been closed for nearly 45 years. Lack of structural integrity. The Town of Groton needed a replacement, something that would link their extensive trail system and provide a long service life.

The new Fitch¡¯s Bridge is a beautifully detailed structure, designed with history in mind to be emblematic of industrial-style steel truss bridge construction. Accommodating pedestrians, bicyclists, runners, and equestrians, the new 126-foot-long bridge connects to the Groton trail system. The project also included modifying two historic stone masonry abutments to serve the new bridge superstructure.

With our careful selection of maintenance-free materials, the team delivered a bridge that would last¡ªone that pays homage to the history of the river crossing.?
