Hobbs Career and Technical Education Center

In the heart of Permian Basin, overlapping the Texas and New Mexico border, lies a unique area where oil, gas, energy production, and agriculture thrive. This collision of sectors creates an interesting geographic and social fabric with one common goal: communal growth.

This was the inspiration behind the new Hobbs Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center. Our architectural team introduced a shared work yard to expose students to trades by putting learning on display. A communal innovation bridge was also introduced to support socializing and collaboration while providing learning opportunities through color coded pipe and building systems. The overlap and collision of program clusters allows students to understand and apply concepts that are outside of their specific area of study to their own curriculum.

As the building faces a prominent highway, the new center will also be an iconic gateway that provides a sense of arrival into the city. Branding displayed on the curtain walls and an entry plaza exhibiting student-built art and site elements provide a welcoming journey into the building. We chose specialty lighting at the bridge and corner elements to make the facility a landmark for the community.
