I-690 over Teall Avenue & Beech Street Bridge Replacements
Ongoing congestion and safety issues at I-690 and Teall Avenue, along with aging infrastructure, have had a negative impact on mobility and accessibility for people living in Syracuse. That¡¯s where our team came in.
To address the safety and congestion issues, we eliminated a 1500-foot-long viaduct and replaced it with a 70-foot standard bridge and aesthetic retaining walls at Beech Street, as well as replacing the Teall Avenue Bridge with a wider structure. The Teall Avenue interchange and portions of the highway were reconstructed to add capacity, remove non-standard conditions, improve safety and pedestrian access, and enhance aesthetics.? To minimize disruption, the schedule was very tight.?
From our Â鶹´«Ã½ on design/build projects, we knew that the key to success is early team collaboration, depth of resources, and Â鶹´«Ã½ in establishing work zones. We developed nearly complete highway design before even being awarded the job, so that we moved very quickly to finalize design. Our in-house team designed all work on the expressway, except the bridges, including highway, retaining wall, ramps, drainage, and lighting. ?
Now complete, the community can enjoy improved safety from geometric and lighting improvements, as well as aesthetic enhancements in the new mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls.
