Lake Powell Pipeline

For 13 communities in southern Utah, water is in short supply. These communities have traditionally relied on a single river basin to supply water and, if quality or quantity problems arise, are at great risk. The Lake Powell Pipeline is part of a comprehensive, long-term water supply plan that includes new water resource development and increased conservation.

The pipeline will transport water from Lake Powell to Washington and Kane counties through approximately 140 miles of 69-inch diameter pipeline using five pump stations. Six hydroelectric facilities will supply a portion of the energy needed to operate the system. At full capacity, the project will deliver a total of 86,249-acre feet of water per year.

We have been conscious of environmental impact throughout the planning process. To mitigate risk, we¡¯re working closely with stakeholders, Department of the Interior agencies, and 22 Native American Tribes and Nations under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. As a result, we¡¯ve developed preliminary plans to integrate infrastructure and identify, analyze, and evaluate alternative options. Managing so many voices was a challenge, so we added client staff members to our team and cultivated a cooperative workspace.
