Lincoln and Sublette Counties Remediation Project

Western Wyoming is known for many things, but what may top the list is gateway to some of the most spectacular scenery on earth in the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Seemingly endless miles of open road leading to the parks mean gas stations dot the map. As they aged, some of those fueling stations developed problems, specifically tanks that leak. With water and ground contamination possible, the State of Wyoming recognized this situation needed to be addressed.

Working closely with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality¡¯s Storage Tank Program, our scientists helped develop a program to address 20 sites between LaBarge and Bondurant in Lincoln and Sublette counties. We identified potential issues and implemented proper remediation processes. Many sites presented unique challenges because of the proximity to perennial and intermittent streams that are part of the upper Green River Basin.

We found the right solution for each site and closely monitored the process to successfully close many of the sites with the remaining locations progressing toward closure. We¡¯re proud to have helped Wyoming protect the gateway to these national parks for years to come.
