Mallard Creek Basin Wastewater Improvements
The City of Charlotte, North Carolina, is growing and to support its population and economic growth needs to enhance the capacity of its wastewater systems. Working with Charlotte Water and R. H. Price, we led design for the project, providing condition assessments, preliminary field investigation, modeling, and construction-cost comparisons.
With a goal to increase wastewater flow capacities to keep up with the rapidly developing community, the multi-phase sewer improvement project will extend from the Mallard Creek Water Reclamation Facility and follow Mallard Creek upstream across the basin and end at the West Mallard Branch. The projected work will include 50,000 linear feet of gravity sewer which will cross sections of highways I-85, I-485, and NC49. The project will include rehabilitation construction and phases of the project will consist of sewer construction, with associated manholes, stream crossings, and trenchless construction methods for road crossings.
With an estimated construction cost of US$150 million, the project is one of the City¡¯s largest wastewater conveyance projects. Phases 1 and 2 of the Mallard Creek Basin Wastewater Improvements projects are scheduled for completion by 2025.
