Paradise-Whitney Interceptor
The sewer system in the city of Las Vegas was disjointed and inefficient. Connections to the main sewer line were few and far between, and relief sewers could not adequately intercept flow. To aid the City¡¯s waste management, we designed the Paradise-Whitney Interceptor (PWI), a 32,000-foot gravity sewer that conveys flow from the future Enterprise Water Resource Center and existing interceptors. It varies in size from 8 to 54 inches, using both PVC and HOBAS fiber reinforced, polymer-mortar pipe.
The course of the PWI begins near the intersection of Valley View Boulevard and Serene Avenue, and runs along roadways throughout the city¡¯s core. Approximately 1.600 feet was installed via trenchless methods to minimize disruptions. This line intercepts flows from existing sewers along its route, connecting a previously disparate system. Preparation for this installation included geotechnical and Phase I environmental site assessments as well as the design of infrastructure to support a future Odor Control Facility.
With new connections to the main line, the City¡¯s inefficient sewage networks now form a cohesive system.
