Perimeter Road Widening and Pedestrian Safety
Located in South Carolina, Clemson University has evolved over the years since its founding in 1889. A challenge facing the university today is increasing traffic safety issues on Perimeter Road in the heart of the campus. Offering our engineering Â鶹´«Ã½, we were selected as the owner¡¯s engineer, also known as client¡¯s engineer, for the first construction manager-at-risk roadway project to be executed by Clemson University through the Office of State Engineer¡ªwe¡¯d be acting as the university¡¯s agent during construction of a safer solution.
To separate vehicle traffic from cyclists and pedestrians in the heart of the campus where traffic is most concentrated, Perimeter Road will be widened. A 1.2-mile (almost 2 kilometre) stretch of road will be expanded from two lanes to a four-lane divided road to improve traffic flow. To further enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety along the corridor, a multi-use path is included along the north side of the road and will include lighting and emergency call boxes.
Following completion, Perimeter Road will be a four-lane facility for its entire 2.3 mile (3.7 kilometre) length, bringing the university and surrounding community additional traffic capacity, cyclist, and pedestrian safety¡ªoverall a safer campus along Perimeter Road.?
