Port Charlotte Beach Nourishment and Dredging

Due to its costal location, Charlotte County is a busy hub for water activity. When the Buena Vista Grassy Point System needed dredging, an opportunity arose to replace the sand at the Port Charlotte Beach Complex¡ªour team stepped in to help.

The Buena Vista Grassy Point System includes access channels linking the Sunrise, Elkcam, Beeney, and Gardner Waterways to Charlotte Harbor¡ªthese channels serve the dual purpose of conveying stormwater runoff and providing access for recreational watercraft. In 2010, due to storm activity, shoal and sediment had accumulated in the access channels to the point where they required maintenance. Our technologically integrated offices used state-of-the-art field equipment, computer hardware, and software to support all consulting tasks required for completion of the project.

The result? The sediment dredged from the channel at the north end of the Port Charlotte Beach Complex was reused to nourish the beach along the south side of the beach parking area. The dredging and beach placement were successfully completed in March 2014, and the community can now enjoy a healthy, new beach.
