Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital ¨C South Expansion
RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) envisioned a campus expansion project that would allow for a complete reinvention of their surgical program at Robert Wood Johnson University. Looking to take surgical care to the next level for optimal patient outcomes, they engaged us to help realize their vision.
By working in collaboration with multiple clinical stakeholder groups, we helped RWJBH make the most of their expansion. The project evolved into a four-story addition that vertically stacks surgical functions over an existing vacant ambulette parking lot at the rear of the campus. Serving as a new face on the south side of the campus, the addition started a series of cascading phased renovations¡ªultimately yielding a state-of-the-art 30-operating room surgical platform, a 2-story automated central sterile processing facility, and an 80-room prep/recovery/post anesthesia care unit department¡ªall while maintaining normal day-to-day hospital operations during construction.
As part of the modernization of the surgical platform, our design included new hybrid imaging technology along with advanced robotic operating rooms. Here, physicians can perform the most complex surgeries using minimally invasive techniques. As a result, hospital stays are shorter, recovery is quicker, and patient safety has been greatly enhanced.
